Batman: Gotham Knight

I just bought BGK, an animated Batman movie from producers of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. It tell 6 stories with 6
different art styles. I really like it and here’s the review

Have I Got a Story for You

The skater kids

The skater kids

Summary:
4 skateboarding kids exchange stories about their encounter
with Batman while he chased a jet-packed villain. Each decribing Batman as different creatures until the real one showed up

The many faces of Batman

The many faces of Batman

Comment:

If you’ve read some old batman comics before, there’s a story like that too, except the kids are in summer camp. I love the jet pack fighting scene in the air. the color fits the mood, if only the character art’s more realist ^^, but the background is AWESOME!!!

Crossfire

Necrohol of Narrows

Necrohol of Narrows

Summary:
The jet-packed villain in the previous story is escorted by Det. Ramirez and her partner to Narrows, but on their way back they are caught in a crossfire between Russian mob and Maroni’s

Crossfire

Crossfire

Comment:

I like the feel when they entered Narrows. The music and the art shows the creepiness of that criminally insane infested island. I also like this one’s art style better, realistic with hard edged shading. It’s similar to the style of a Street Fighter anime in the 90s, so Batman got some biig muscles too

Field Test

Guess who are these guys

Guess who these guys are

Summary:
Batman field testing a (believe it or not) force field that’s able to deflect bullets and some kind of a mega-magnet thingy that’s strong enough to pull a boat. Copyright Lucius Fox.

The Bat and The Mobs

Comment:
First of all… FORCE FIELD? MEGA MAGNET? Good thing they find a reason not to include it in the movie. Batman’s not a sci-fi! Well, almost. This is just too anime to be Batman.

Second….. behold for the first time ever… a BISHONEN BRUCE WAYNE!!!

Bishonen Bruce Wayne

Bishonen Bruce Wayne

No kidding here. I know Bruce Wayne’s supposed to be handsome, but NOT THAT CUTE! You ever see a Bruce Wayne or Batman whose eyes SPARKLES in the light? And as batman, he’s not creepy or dark at all. more like a n anime character in a bat-mech-like-suit.

Well okay, he’s not shojo-manga pretty, and it’s just hilight. Not sparkle. But still. Bruce Wayne’s supposed to be rugged-handsome not boyish-handsome
and don’t get me wrong, despite the rant, I LOVE it ^^

===================================================================================

In Darkness Dwells

It's really dark in here or it's just me?

Is it just me or it's really dark in here?

Summary:
Batman explore the sewers to rescue a Cardinal, kidnapped by The Scarecrow. There he also encountered the Killer Croc.

Close encounter of the third kind

Close encounter of the third kind

Comment:

More action packed than the previous story, it’s pretty cool. Scarecrow was done in better justice than in the movie. He wear his full costume and his scythe. The art style has very hard edged, blocky black shadows. I’m not very fond with this. It reminds me to some newspaper caricature, but it has a “Batman” feel so it’s pretty good.

====================================================================================

Working Through Pain

Bruce the vampire in India

Bruce the vampire in India

Summary:
As Batman struggle through the sewers with battered body from his previous battle, he remembered his time in India, working as a volunteer nurse and learning the way of Fakir on how to get through pain.

"Cassandra, does it hurt?"

"Cassandra, does it hurt?"

Comment:

Good story, minimal action, with India as the setting, it’s a good variation. Due to the story, it has slower pace than the previous. Bruce Wayne look like a vampire here ^^, with his pale face, and swift, cool movement in a fight scene.

===================================================================================

Deadshot

Prelude to a kill

Prelude to a kill

Summary:
The mobs have had enough with Batman, and hired Deadshot to kill him and Gordon.

Subway Showdown

Subway Showdown

Comment:

As the final story, I think this is the best. It got good art and cool action scenes. Deadshot is definitely the coolest villain here. I love the duel between him and Batman on the train. The art also has the most comic book sryle than the other. Bruce Wayne appeared oldest here, with strong jaw, hard cheekbones and full muscle, he looks like 30something. Just like the Bruce Wayne I know. Batman looks best here. Dark, creepy, cool, strong, but not overly muscled.

Other hilights
Background Art
All background art in these animes are superb. Despite differences in styles, Gotham is always featured magnificently. Definitely one of the view to enjoy.
Musical Score
The theme and music has the same feel with the movies. Really cool. Especially in full action episodes like “In Darkness Dwell” and “Deadshot”

Kevin Conroy
Kevin Conroy has been the voice actor of batman animations and video games all the way from Batman Animated Series in the 90s. (I only just know this coz I didn’t pay attention to voice actors back then, but he does great as Batman)

Well I enjoyed it. Did you?

  1. Check out Batman and his opponents and what kind of personality disorders they are likely to have.

  2. seems like good stuff, save the third one. Force field ? meh, it’s like, one of the things you’d least expected from a Batman.

  3. Hi there, what a nice website u have here!! thanks for adding veegraph.com link here, keep the good work. Best Regards.

  4. The review above read as though it was written by a 14 year old. It gave no deep insight to any aspects of each episode of BGK. I learned absolutely nothing from this persons ramblings. I don’t recommend anyone who has not seen this cartoon to take this review to heart or even consider what this reviewer has said about the cartoon. My advice, rent or buy the movie and judge for yourself. If you don’t want to spend the money – go read a more decent review else where.

  5. Dear Jake, it wasn’t meant to be a serious review. I’m not a movie critic. I do this just for fun and share my opinion. That’s all. There’s no purpose to make other people understand or attracted to the movie when I make this review. It’s simply a personal opinion, and yes, it is a rambling.
